Tom Stoltman Is a Gladiator Now. Strength Sport Just Went Prime Time.
Tom Stoltman — three-time World's Strongest Man — is joining the cast of BBC One's Gladiators. He'll film at Sheffield Arena for a series airing in 2027. Giants Live confirmed it on July 21, 2026. The biggest name in strongman is about to be on Saturday night television in front of millions of people who have never watched a man pick up an Atlas stone.
What exactly was announced?
Stoltman, known as The Albatross, will appear as one of the Gladiators — the resident athletes contenders have to get through. Filming happens at Sheffield Arena, and the series airs in 2027. His Gladiator name hasn't been revealed yet.
Why Sheffield matters here
It isn't a neutral venue for him. Back in February he won his fourth Britain's Strongest Man title in that same building in front of nearly 10,000 people. He's walking back into a room he already conquered, this time with a camera crew and a different job.

Darren Sadler, Director of Giants Live and World's Strongest Man Tournament Director, put it plainly: “Tom is quite simply a strength legend and I'm thrilled for him personally and excited that the millions of Gladiators viewers will now get to experience quite how incredible he is on tv each Saturday night.”
Sadler also framed it as a signal about the sport itself — that a three-time WSM winner getting picked for a show that size is a measure of how far strength has climbed into the mainstream.
Why this is bigger than one TV gig
Strongman has spent decades as a thing you found at 2 a.m. on a sports channel nobody paid for. Here's what changes when a WSM champion is on prime-time BBC:
- Scale. Gladiators pulls a mainstream Saturday-night audience — orders of magnitude beyond strongman's usual reach.
- A face, not a highlight. Casual viewers won't be watching a clip of a deadlift. They'll watch the same man week after week.
- A pipeline. Kids who find Stoltman on Gladiators can find Giants Live from there. That's how sports grow.
- Proof the ceiling moved. Ten years ago the call doesn't happen. This year it did.
Does going on TV make him soft?
No. He won Britain's Strongest Man in February and has three World's Strongest Man titles behind him. Nobody hands you that for being telegenic. The work came first — the television is what the work bought.
