What to Wear to a Hardcore Show: Shirt, Shoes and What to Leave Home

THE WORK — What to Wear to a Hardcore Show, Deadweight Supply Co.

Wear a heavyweight, dark cotton tee, closed-toe shoes you can move in, and nothing you'd be upset to lose — a hardcore show is hot, crowded and physical, and anything thin, loose or valuable is a liability. That's the whole rule. The rest is detail.

Start with the shirt, because that's what takes the damage. The Tyrant Tee is 240 GSM cotton, so it stays opaque when it's soaked and holds its shape when it gets pulled on. You can browse the full heavyweight tee collection too.

The Checklist

Item Wear Skip
Shirt Heavyweight cotton, dark color, a fit that doesn't restrict your arms Thin jersey, white tees, anything you'd cry over
Shoes Closed-toe sneakers or boots that lace tight Sandals, slides, loose slip-ons
Pants / shorts Durable, with zip or deep pockets Anything tight, delicate or fragile
Hat Fitted or adjustable and secure, or none Anything you can't afford to lose
Accessories Nothing, or a wallet chain you can detach Rings, necklaces, dangling jewelry, glasses you can't replace
Bag None. Phone and ID in a front pocket. Backpacks, purses

Why the Shirt Matters Most

A pit grabs, pulls and soaks a shirt faster than almost any other environment. Thin cotton stretches at the collar within a few songs and goes see-through when wet. We explain the mechanics in why graphic tees go see-through and why collars stretch out. Heavyweight cotton avoids both. Dark colors hide sweat; see what actually hides sweat.

Show up in something that lasts the night. The Tyrant Tee is oversized, 240 GSM and printed DTF front and back, so it doesn't crack in the wash. Limited run. Once it's gone, it's gone.

Fit: Oversized Works, Within Reason

An oversized tee gives you room to move and doesn't ride up. It also gives someone more to grab. A drop-shoulder cut with reinforced seams is a sensible middle. For how to pick a fit, read oversized vs regular fit.

Shoes, Pockets and Everything Else

You will get stepped on. Closed shoes protect your feet and stay on when the room moves. Keep your phone and ID in a front pocket, leave the bag at home, and don't bring anything you'd miss. Bring earplugs if you want to keep your hearing; many people do. Drink water before you go in.

Wearing the Band's Shirt

Wearing a band shirt to their show is normal and respected. If you want to know the scene first, read what NYHC is and the beatdown hardcore field guide.
